Eric Abidal’s agent has revealed the Barcelona defender is progressing well after surgery to remove a tumour on his liver.
The 31-year old France international had surgery last week and his representative David Venditelli told COM Radio last night he is “recovering well”, is in “good spirits” and awaiting the results of a biopsy to “see if everything is fine”.
Venditelli also confirmed Barca had offered Abidal a new contract but that the player would rather focus on his recuperation at the current time.
“We would prefer to wait for the results on Eric’s health before talking about a contract extension. It is clear that Eric is happy with how the club has responded. He is pleased Barca are keen to negotiate an extension. (Director of football) Raul Sanllehi and (sporting director) Andoni Zubizarreta have been exceptional.”
Abidal joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2007 and has been a regular this season since then.
