La Liga Title Still Up For Grabs

David, May 10, 2010

Barcelona head into the final week of the La Liga season a point ahead of Real Madrid after a nervy 3-2 win over Sevilla on Saturday. Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic and Pedro were the goalscorers for Barca. Barcelona can wrap up the title with a win at home over Real Valladolid next weekend.

Real Madrid kept the gap to one point after a 5-1 thumping of Athletic Bilbao at home. Real’s final match is at Malaga, who are one place below Valladolid

Barcelona beat Real Madrid in both of this season’s “Clasicos” and have lost only once all season, scoring 94 goals and conceding 24. With the win at the weekend they have extended their record points tally to 96 from 37 matches with Real in second on 95. Valencia, who are in 3rd are a massive 27 points behind second place Real Madrid.

“We are not going to lose hope,” Real defender Sergio Ramos, who netted his side’s third goal, told reporters. “We have to carry on doing our jobs and if Barca win the league with 99 points they’ll have to be congratulated.”
