Galliani criticizes ‘crazy’ buys

David, February 3, 2011September 25, 2013

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has questioned the “financial sense” of the English transfer market after Monday’s massive deals.

English clubs spent over £218million throughout the month, with the most notable buys taking place on the final day as Liverpool and Chelsea sparked a transfer frenzy. Chelsea spent a British record £50million for Fernando Torres, and then added defender David Luiz for £21.3million.

Liverpool meanwhile paid £35million for Newcastle’s Andy Carroll and £22.7million for Ajax striker Luis Suarez.

And with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations being introduced next year, Milan chief Galliani criticized the spending by English clubs saying:

“Everyone’s talking about balancing the books but then they spend like crazy people. [Chelsea] strengthened in an amazing way spending 80million euros, I just don’t know where financial sense will end up.”
