Italian Health Experts So No To Season Resuming

The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) says it ‘wouldn’t be in favour’ of the season resuming.

The FIGC, Serie A and sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora are all in agreement over completing the 2019-20 campaign as soon as it is safe enough to do so.

It had been suggested that training could start again once the first phase of lockdown ends on May 3, with a view to possibly ending the season by August.

However, the ISS, the leading technical-scientific body of the Italian health service, believes 2019-20 should be written off.

FIFA About To Get Sued As They Unilaterally Extend Player Contracts

FIFA have announced contracts will be extended and transfer windows shift in line with the changing fixture list after the COVID-19 crisis. A decison that is sure to be met with lawsuits as FIFA does not have the power to unilaterally extend player contracts.

Nobody knows when the current season will resume, or even if it will resume, so FIFA have taken the step of guaranteeing some elements that were up for debate.

Specifically, that allows player contracts to be extended beyond June 30 to the natural end of the season, and moves the transfer windows to an appropriate time for the clubs and players in this new reality.

UEFA Draw Line In Sand When All Seasons Must End

UEFA

UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin admits the idea of Champions League and Europa League play-offs are “an option,” but either way all leagues “must finish by August 3.”

All football has been suspended in Europe’s major leagues due to the coronavirus pandemic and it’s not clear when, or indeed if, the campaign will be concluded.

What we do now have is a deadline, set by Ceferin during an interview with German television station ZDF.

“It must finish by August 3, both the Champions and Europa League. It is an extraordinary situation we are in, so we are flexible on dates and kick-off times. If the crisis eases earlier, then we can start sooner.”

The 2020 Major League Soccer season – which started less than two weeks ago – has been suspended for 30 days.

Serie A Suspended Until At Least April 3

All sport in Italy is to be suspended for the next month as the Italian authorities steps up measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.

The Italian national Olympic committee confirmed the news on Monday, which includes all matches in Serie A, Italy’s highest football division, but does not cover Italian clubs or national teams competing in international competitions such as the Champions League.

The committee, which oversees all sporting events in the country, said in a statement that the suspension will last until April 3 and that it would request a government decree to impose its decision.

Juventus End Milan Title Hopes In Derby D’Italia Win

Juventus v Inter

Juventus returned to the top of Serie A after goals from Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala earned them a 2-0 Derby D’Italia victory over Inter at an empty Allianz Stadium.

Maurizio Sarri’s side were clinical in a surreal atmosphere – supporters have been barred from attending matches until April 3 amid coronavirus precautions – securing a third consecutive league win after Ramsey netted for the second game running, while substitute Dybala doubled the hosts lead with a scintillating strike.

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to find the net for the first time in 12 league matches on a night when he could have set a new Serie A record goalscoring streak, the Portugal star missing two excellent late chances.

Serie A To Continue Behind Closed Doors

Italy’s Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora says Serie A will “go ahead” with games played behind closed doors following a meeting held in Rome.

However only games in certain regions have been cancelled.

This has led to in fighting between many of the clubs, with some stating that either all games go ahead, behind closed doors, or they should all be postponed.

Today a meeting was held between the clubs and Italy’s Minister of Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, in order to resolve the ever-growing crisis.

Sarri On The Brink At Juventus

Sarri Juventus

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri could face the sack if his side lose to title rivals Inter Milan this weekend, according to La Repubblica.

The former Chelsea boss once again launched an extraordinary attack on his players after their defeat to Lyon in the Champions League this week.

And should Juventus’ problems continue, the hierarchy could make a sensational exemption and bring back former boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Sarri’s words after their shock defeat in France surprised senior figures Fabio Paratici, Pavel Nedved and Andrea Agnelli – and there is a great fear of what the rest of the season may bring.
