MLS 2016 Schedule Released

revs-fans-bannerMajor League Soccer has released its 2016 schedule, which includes the league’s debut on the FOX broadcast network, a record 29 matches on ESPN, and 28 games on UniMás.

Among the other highlights in 2016 are two Heineken Rivalry Weeks (May 20-22 and August 26-28), along with a new wrinkle to the season-ending #DecisionDay: All 10 finales will kick off at the same time.

The MLS schedule is broken up pretty simply: Every team plays conference opponents either two or three times and they face out-of-conference teams just once. So not every schedule is made the same, making the strength of schedule calculation all the more interesting.

Is Radamel Falcao Heading To Columbus Crew?

Falcao-scoresChelsea striker Radamel Falcao has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer and the Columbus Crew.

Another Aging England International Heading To MLS

Ashley ColeMajor League Soccer just does not learn from its mistakes. Less than six months since the disappointing arrival of former England stars Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in MLS, reports out of Italy suggest that former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole is close to joining Gerrard at LA Galaxy.

The 35-year-old full-back will arrive in LA well rested after managing just 16 appearances for AS Roma in the last 18 months. He is clearly a player whose best days are behind him.

Not sure how the Galaxy can afford “Cashley” who famously left Arsenal for rivals Chelsea after being left “trembling with anger” when the Gunners offered him wages of only £55,000 per week.

Gerrard Comments Show That He Came To MLS Just For The Money

la-galaxy-gerrard-liverpoolExtremely naive quotes from ex-Liverpool and current LA Galaxy star Steven Gerrard on the club’s website.

The former England captain arrived in LA with a lot of fanfare, but unlike another previous England captain who played for the Galaxy, Gerrard seemed to be in Major League Soccer more for the money than the challenge of winning trophies.

On the pitch Gerrard was a disappointment, looking tired and lethargic for most of the season. Part of the reason for that could be that Gerrard kept making these midweek trips back to England to commentate on Champions League games.
