Beckham ruptures Achilles tendon World Cup dream over

Not only is David Beckham’s World Cup dream over after rupturing his Achilles tendon today while playing for AC Milan, but his career might be over also.

Beckham sustained the injury without coming into contact with anyone else, limping to the sidelines for treatment before being stretchered away in pain and in tears.

“David’s injury is bad for us,” said Milan coach Leonardo, who refused to officially confirm the nature of the problem although Sky Sports Italia claimed it was a season-ending Achilles rupture. “David realised straightaway what had happened. He understood that it was a serious problem and he said so immediately. It?s such a great shame.”

AC Milan midfielder Ignazio Abate added:

“Beckham is not well. To see him suffer like that has really touched us.”

Beckham has to be in serious doubt for the upcoming MLS season which is a major blow to the LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer. At 34 years old, questions will have to be asked about Beckham can recover and play again at an elite level at his age.
