Atletico Madrid Rip Chelsea Apart In Monoco

Chelsea were thrashed 4-1 by Atletico Madrid tonight and the score does not do justice to how bad Chelsea was.

As Ashley Cole tweeted after the game:

“Wellll that was a lesson, absolute joke no fight, desire, passion, and a big reality check!!!!!! sorrycfcfans.”

Chelsea had no idea how to stop Falcao, who scored a hat-trick and hit the woodwork twice.

The alarm bells had to be going off in Roberto Di Matteo’s head after only four minutes when Falcao’s sliding finish hit the crossbar. Three minutes later Falcao made no mistake when he raced clear, waited for Petr Cech to commit and dinked the ball beyond the lunging David Luiz on the line and in off the post.

Chelsea were a disjointed shell of the side that had started so well in the Premier League and in the 18th minute Falcao scored again.

Unbelievably, the Blues defence simply stood off one of the world’s most lethal finishers as he curled a delicious 15-yard shot into the top corner.

Throughout all of preseason Chelsea found themselves time and time again ripped apart defensively, and those defensive problems were back for everyone to see in Monaco.

Atletico could have scored six or seven by half-time. Petr Cech made a good save from Gabi after Atletico found themselves five on three and then Falcao hit the woodwork for the second time when redirected Lopez’s shot onto post.

But he was not to be denied, completing a well deserved hat-trick moments before half-time when Turan was allowed to run 60 yards unchallenged and squared for the unmarked striker to finish.

Torres’s first real attempt of the game in the 50th minute was almost laughable by comparison as Chelsea brought on Oscar for Ramires at the restart.

Miranda made it 4-0 when he poked Mario Suarez’s lay-off home before Gary Cahill restored some pride for Chelsea, drilling =home after Atletico failed to clear Frank Lampard’s corner.

All in all a dreadful night for Chelsea in a big stage. I could not believe how bad Chelsea was. It was like they treated this as an exhibition game, while Atletico Madrid were in Monaco to win a trophy.
