AC Milan Drops Two Points In Serie A Title Race

David, February 1, 2011

AC MilanSerie A pacesetters AC Milan are five points clear at the summit after being held to a goalless draw at home to Lazio.

After an even first half in which neither side was able to create a clear opportunity, Milan went up a gear after the break. The closest they came to breaking the deadlock was six minutes into the second period, when Zlatan Ibrahimović’s right-footed shot struck both posts of Fernando Muslera’s goal.

Muslera was beaten once more with 21 minutes remaining, this time by Robinho, but the Lazio keeper was rescued by centre-back Giuseppe Biava, who was on hand to block the Brazil forward’s effort.

The draw means Lazio remain seven points adrift in third, but second-placed Napoli will move to within two of Milan if they beat Verona on Wednesday. In other matches Wednesday, Juventus visits Palermo and AS Roma hosts Brescia, while Inter Milan faces Bari on Thursday.
