Sven Fired by Mexico

The FIFA web site is reporting that  Sven-Goran Eriksson has been sacked as Mexico’s national team coach following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Honduras in a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualifier Wednesday.

Wednesday’s defeat was Mexico’s second loss in three matches in the final phase of qualifying in North, Central America and the Caribbean, coming hot on the heels of a reverse to the United States sandwiched by a home success over Costa Rica at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Eriksson had acknowledged before the Costa Rica encounter that he knew he was under pressure to deliver with media predicting his days were numbered after just 13 matches at the helm.

The midweek loss in San Pedro Sula was only the latest in a series of poor showings on the road.

“This morning we had a meeting with Mr. Eriksson and we told him his spell with the Mexican team had come to an end,” added Compean. The decision was made because we could not risk Mexico’s participation in the World Cup,” said federation president Justino Compean, who, noting poor away form, added it was not sufficient to rely wholly on winning home matches. “

Eriksson, who angered supporters by bringing four foreign-born players into the squad, said he regretted not having longer to prove his credentials. “I enjoyed the work, the country, everything. Sooner or later patience runs out,” said Eriksson, who won a swathe of honours with IFK Gothenburg in his homeland before further successes with Portugal’s Benfica and then in Italy with AS Roma, Sampdoria and Lazio, with whom he won Serie A prior to taking the England job.

“It’s a shame because I always thought I would be in the Mexico dugout for a World Cup as Mexico are going to qualify,” said the Swede, who readily admitted that poor away showings were to blame. “We did not play well away from home and this is my responsibility.”

Compean said a replacement would be lined up within days with the Mexician media quickly putting their money on former boss Javier Aguirre, who recently left Atletico Madrid, with Jose Manuel de la Torre of Mexican champions Toluca another name in the frame.

Hi dear good friends in the crown-earning Inter FC, please we do not need Kaka in our sweetheart Inter FC. He is already injured, and his days has passed in our oposition club-Milan FC. Right now, we need youthful players that have high ambitions of winning International and local golden cups for us. Our Honourabl president; Chief MASSIMO MORATTI should ignor any idea about bringing Kaka into Inter Fc-the reigning football club now in the world. We need players like Diego of Atlantic Madrid FC, David Villa of Barce FC, these good footballers have goal scoreing ambition. Our diffence is rock wall on the mountain Zion, our mid-field is strong with super power connection link with the attackers upfront, so we need only good understanding and very good co-ordination among the already vibrating hot players in our Inter FC. We must win Seria A cup 2010-2011, Champions league cup 2010-2011, Italian TIM cup 2010-2011, and all the remaining international golden cups this football season(2010-2011). With God on our side, Inter FC will continue playing clean-football inside football field. ”Calcio pulito.” is our style of winning all the times. Snakes in the green grass is our Club well known name, so running fast inside the green grass like snake is the winning formular for Inter FC Snake -Big Boys.

God Bless All the family members of Inter FC Alleluiah! Amen. up Inter FC! up Inter FC!! Up Inter FC!!! ciao, ciao, ciao!!!

Long life Inter FC, Long life all Inter Fc family members all over the world. God bless International football club of Milan Amen.
    JOHNMARK OKONGWO.

I am still confuse to the fact that Inter sold Mario Balotelli, he is young and why did they sold him.

      • David September 13, 2010, 2:00 pm

I think he sold more because of his attitude rather than his lack of skill

this will only be nice if kaka will not be in mourinho real madrid champions league list,.because we donot need only a league player but one who will be involve in all matches. am still disappointed with kaka’s injury, are we sure we are not going in for a handicapped player?
