Italian Health Experts So No To Season Resuming

The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) says it ‘wouldn’t be in favour’ of the season resuming.

The FIGC, Serie A and sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora are all in agreement over completing the 2019-20 campaign as soon as it is safe enough to do so.

It had been suggested that training could start again once the first phase of lockdown ends on May 3, with a view to possibly ending the season by August.

However, the ISS, the leading technical-scientific body of the Italian health service, believes 2019-20 should be written off.

FIFA have announced contracts will be extended and transfer windows shift in line with the changing fixture list after the COVID-19 crisis. A decison that is sure to be met with lawsuits as FIFA does not have the power to unilaterally extend player contracts.

Nobody knows when the current season will resume, or even if it will resume, so FIFA have taken the step of guaranteeing some elements that were up for debate.

Specifically, that allows player contracts to be extended beyond June 30 to the natural end of the season, and moves the transfer windows to an appropriate time for the clubs and players in this new reality.

UEFA Draw Line In Sand When All Seasons Must End

UEFA

UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin admits the idea of Champions League and Europa League play-offs are “an option,” but either way all leagues “must finish by August 3.”

All football has been suspended in Europe’s major leagues due to the coronavirus pandemic and it’s not clear when, or indeed if, the campaign will be concluded.

What we do now have is a deadline, set by Ceferin during an interview with German television station ZDF.

“It must finish by August 3, both the Champions and Europa League. It is an extraordinary situation we are in, so we are flexible on dates and kick-off times. If the crisis eases earlier, then we can start sooner.”

Juventus End Milan Title Hopes In Derby D’Italia Win

Juventus v Inter

Juventus returned to the top of Serie A after goals from Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala earned them a 2-0 Derby D’Italia victory over Inter at an empty Allianz Stadium.

Maurizio Sarri’s side were clinical in a surreal atmosphere – supporters have been barred from attending matches until April 3 amid coronavirus precautions – securing a third consecutive league win after Ramsey netted for the second game running, while substitute Dybala doubled the hosts lead with a scintillating strike.

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to find the net for the first time in 12 league matches on a night when he could have set a new Serie A record goalscoring streak, the Portugal star missing two excellent late chances.
