Barcelona’s star midfielder, Xavi Hernandez, once again asked his team’s faithful to continue their massive support for Barca’s upcoming Champions League semifinal clash against Chelsea at Camp Nou.
Xavi understand that there’s still some bitterness felt by the fans especially after El Classico result this weekend, but the Spanish international believes that a strong support will carry Pep Guardiola’s squad back on winning ways.
“The fans are intelligent enough to know that we will be playing for so much on Tuesday and we really want them behind us, as they always have been on the big occasions to help us fight back.” We are playing for the chance to make the Champions League final, that says everything,” Xavi explained.
Furthermore, Xavi also promised the fans that although the La Liga title is looking pretty much out of their hand this season, Barcelona players will try to give their all in winning other two competitions left for the Catalan. The Spanish international believed that if they can managed to secure Champions League and Copa Del Rey title, things won’t looked that bleak by the end of season despite having to hand Real Madrid the La Liga title after three seasons of dominance from Guardiola boys.
However, considering Barcelona already grabbed the Super Copa, Super Cup along with World Club Cup title earlier this season, finishing with two cups by the end of season would still be considered massive achievement indeed. Obviously should what Xavi planned for happened, the failure in La Liga might slightly be forgotten by Barca’s players and fans as they would still finish the season with many achievements.
The league title might be lost, but we’ve got a cup final ahead, we’ve already won three titles and we can still reach the Champions League final. Of the six competitions we were in this season, we still have the chance to come away with five – we are just missing the cup and the Champions League. We’ll keep fighting, because we know that it’s in our own hands to finish with a good season,” Xavi aded.
