Xavi hopeful to play ahead of Valencia match

Barcelona will have a tough match next weekend against Valencia, and one player who hopes to be fit enough to return is non-other than Barca play-maker, Xavi.

Having been suffering Achilles tendon issues, Xavi was left of Spain’s roster ahead of their two Euro 2012 qualifying matches. In addition to being left out of Spain’s roster, Xavi also was sidelined in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw to Real Mallorca last weekend.

Although a slight slip-up can cause Xavi to miss the remainder of the season if the proper care isn’t taken, Xavi is still eager to get back on the pitch. In a recent statement made by the Spanish midfielder, Xavi went on to say the following on Barca’s offial website:

“I’m getting better, I’ve suffered enough and I’ve played with quite a lot of pain. The doctors knew it, I knew it, but they were important games and I wanted to be involved, but in the end the pain was unbearable. After the (Champions League) match with Rubin Kazan I spoke with Del Bosque and with Pep. I think that it was a good moment to rest. This 20-day break has been good for me and we’ll see if I can overcome this tendonitis and this great pain that I have.”

What do you think Pep should decide to do? Think Xavi should sit out a little more for his risk of getting hurt is slighter or do Barca need him on the field now? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
