Today marks the the start of the Fifa World cup trophy tour. The golden trophy will visit 89 cities in 86 countries including my home country Kenya on November 14th and 15th.
Apart from attending the finals next year, this will also be the closest i get to feeling the exhilaration some of the world’s greatest players have felt when lifting this piece of art.
Just to give you some background information on this trophy, it was designed by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga. It is 36.8 centimeters high and it weighs approximately 6.2 kilograms of solid 18-carat gold. It’s base consists of two layers of Malachite a semi-precious metal. All the names of the previous winners since 1974 have been engraved on it.
We are getting closer and closer to the greatest tournament on earth and the excitement is evident. All people can talk about here is this event. The question is where will you be come kick-off day June 11 2010?
