Wayne Rooney set to leave Manchester United

The young English striker appears set to leave Manchester United. As detailed here just before the weekend the Manchester United striker is seemingly do all he can to leave the club from North West England. Where Rooney will end up is not quite clear. Potential buyers include Manchester City, Chelsea, Internazionale Milan, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Beyond these six sides it is difficult to imagine an alternative, although Bayern Munich might present themselves as outsiders for his signature. Chelsea would surely like to sign the player but Manchester United still hold the players signature and are unlikely to agree to a deal that would see their star player leave them for their biggest rivals in the race for the Premiership title. Similarly, Manchester United would be loathe to sell Wayne Rooney to city rivals Manchester City. Apparently it is the continued interest from Manchester City that has turned the strikers head. It appears that a deal that would see Rooney collect £250,000 a week is on offer from Manchester City, which is more than double what, it seems, that he currently earns.

Other options include the Milanese clubs, AC and Internazionale, although it is unclear whether either have the finances to support a move. Internazionale Milan are seemingly directing all their resources towards the signing of Lionel Messi whilst AC Milan have only just recently completed the signings of forwards Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and need strengthening in other areas, such as midfield and defence. Consequently it appears unlikely that either of the two Milanese clubs will make a move for Wayne Rooney. In Spain Real Madrid have often been linked with Wayne Rooney and their manager Jose Mourinho is a confirmed admirer of the player but the club from Madrid have spent enormous sums in the past two summers and it is unclear whether they have the resources to finance another huge transfer. The club also already have Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as options in attack, all of whom are worth enormous sums in their own right. Accomodating the three of these attackers is difficult enough so finding space for another would prove a gargantuan task.

Still, Real Madrid fans would surely be excited at the idea of Ronaldo and Rooney pairing up again as the pair proved so successful at Manchester United winning three consecutive Premiership titles and a Champions League. Some analysts are even suggesting that Benzema might be heading to Manchester United and Rooney to Madrid in a part cash part player exchange arrangement. Barcelona have also been linked with Rooney in the past but after declaring the state of their financial situation in the summer it is quite apparent that they do not have the money to finance such a deal at the moment.
