Valencia Ease Passed PSV Challenge In Europa League

Guest Post, March 15, 2012

Valencia advanced to the next stage of Europa League and simply glad not to pay for their mistakes in throwing away a four goal advantage into only having two for the second leg against PSV Eindhoven.

Adil Rami’s goal was obviously the show for El Che on the night as not only he was the one scoring the La Liga side’s only goal in a1-1 draw, but the French international also got himself send off, leaving some scarce in the last few minutes for his team.

Already having a 4-2 lead on aggregate, Valencia tried to play in a much more efficient way against PSV in the second leg, acknowledging that the home team will be pushing forward looking for goals. Unay Emery’s team didn’t just hold back though as they also created several dangerous chances but both teams have pretty much an equal chances in going up in the first half, but unfortunately no goals arrived in that first 45 minutes.

Luck seemed to be heading towards Valencia as right after the re-start they earned an important away goal when Rami accidentally deflected Sofiane Feghouli’s shot and completely wrong footed PSV’s goalie, Tyton. That goal didn’t eventually stopped the Dutch team’s effort in looking for their own goals and they eventually got it 15 minutes latter through their main striker, Ola Tovionen, send his shot passed Diego Alves in the 64th minute.

Acknowledging that there’s still a chance to push for a victory, PSV players were simply taking the attacking initiative even more but a fine display from Alves stopped some of the home team’s scoring chances. Things got heated up a bit in the final few minutes when Rami was given a marching order by the referee after the French international get himself involve in an incident with Tovionen, something obviously unnecessary from the defender knowing that his team already looking to go through.
