2010 WCQ: US Beats HON, Qualifies For World Cup

us-soccerWell, the Yanks have officially booked their tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after beating Honduras in a 3-2 thriller. I missed the game because (a) I was at a wedding, and (b) it wasn’t on TV anyway. So, let me say up front that I still feel like I can’t really give you any real insight into the outcome. You can’t analyze a game you didn’t see.

But, I have read the box score and a few articles, so I will speak about what appears to have gone down. Apparently, the US used their athletic advantage and tenacious will to overcome Los Catrachos. Conor Casey exploded on the scene with two goals, & LD notched our 3rd goal and got yet another assist. In short, we won 3-2 and are in the Cup.

Howard also made a big save on a Carlos Pavon penalty. All in all, it sounds like we played a little loose defensively, but we brought the thunder on the attack. LD continued to prove he is the “straw that stirs the drink”, and Casey must now be considered a contender for a 2010 roster spot due to his white hot play of late. Seriously, he is flat out on fire.

Sorry I can’t provide you with my normal comprehensive run down of the game, but I can’t really comment on something I still haven’t seen. But, I will say that this result means Bob Bradley has gotten us to the Big Dance and will definitely be leading us in South Africa in 2010. I, for one, am glad. I hope we can now turn our attention to having a great tourney next year. This battle is over, but the war is far from over.
