The title race between Manchester United and Arsenal as the current two top teams in the league take another turn as United once again showed their experience and extend their lead against the Gunners that disappoints again this weekend.
Having the same injury issues especially at the back, the two top leaders got a different results on Saturday as Man United ran away with the three point, while Arsene Wenger’s team goes home with only one.
10 Man United Sneak Pass Bolton
A show of mental strength was visible again at Old Trafford this weekend as Manchester United somehow get themselves away from trouble once again as despite playing with 10 man for the last 15 minutes of the game, Sir Alex Ferguson team picked up an important three point. Recently forgotten man, Dimitar Berbatov, strikes again for the home team as his poaching instinct prove decisive in getting what looks like a very big point for the title challenge.
The Bulgarian striker simply took away the good work done by Bolton defense, especially goal keeper, Jussi Jaaskelainen, who simply made a mistake he don’t want to remember during the process of the goal. Jaaskelainen spilled Nani’s low drive right in front of Berbatov, who easily nod the ball pass the Bolton keeper, providing what’s to be the only goal in the match. Making things much more impressive, United got the goal just minutes after Johnny Evans got himself send off after making a crunching tackle on Bolton player.
Arsenal Comeback For A Point Against West Brom
Meanwhile, the Gunner also showed their mental strength but it still isn’t enough to keep their pace with United in the top of table as their comeback after going 2-0 down against West Brom only resulted in a point for the London side. Two second half goals from Andrey Arshavin and Robin Van Persie canceled out the home team’s goals scored by Steven Reid and Peter Odimwingie, that had Arsene Wenger’s team on the back foot for a while in the game.
Eying a chance to keep up pace with the league leader, Arsenal players who have just crashed out from three competition looked a bit dismayed as they concede a very early goal when Reid climbed the highest to score from the corner. Few minutes into the second half, things seemed to get worse for the home team after Odimwingie strike the home team’s second, but instead making Wenger boys’ down, the second goal lifted their spirit as Arshavin and Van Persie scored two goals in the space of 10 minutes making the final part of the game a hell for West Brom that just managed to hold on for a probably deserved draw.
