They are widely considered the two best players in the world. They both have won Golden Boots, league titles, Champions League cups, and just about any individual award ever created for offensive-minded footballers.
Oh, and they both also happen to play in La Liga for rival clubs.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are clearly the two best players in all of the world and this season their respected league side’s should finish one and two regardless of which team ends up winning the title. The two goal scoring forwards can play anywhere on the pitch and make their teams better by their unique versatility as a winger or forward. And this weekend both shined as crucial finishers to their league side.
Ronaldo would awaken his Real Madrid offense by scoring a ridiculous four goals against Racing Santander in a 6-1 thrashing of the club. Los Blancos further established their first place record in the league table and proved that Jose Mourinho’s newly installed system is having instant results. Ronaldo’s role as the ultimate playmaker could end up giving the Special One a certain offensive edge he lacked at Inter.
As for Messi and Barcelona the star had a much more human effort then Ronaldo did earlier today, but none the less the little Argentine impressed with a two goal performance and yet another important win to remain in contention with Real Madrid. The 2-0 victory was much more modest of a performance then Real Madrid’s considering they were playing last place Zaragoza, but the win was still a crucial one considering it came on the road.
And although it is a great story to see clubs like Valencia and Villarreal competing for the La Liga title, two superstars will likely will their teams to a two horse race yet again down the stretch of the season. And with a combined 6 goal performance today from the two footballers, I’d say it will be fun to watch this special season unfold due to these two unmatched stars.
