An interesting news appeared from Italy suggesting that veteran striker, David Trezeguet, is heading back to Serie A next season and be part of the recently improved Napoli team, that are looking to regain their past success.
The reports of Trezeguet’s possible move to San Paolo was revealed by the player’s agent himself, Antonio Caliendo, who said he is working to release the Frenchman current contract with Hercules Alicante so he can join the Partenopei next summer.
The fact that Napoli are in the brink of playing Champions League football next season seems to catch Trezeguet’s eye as even though the veteran hit-man wont likely to be acting as first team starter, but his surely will get plenty playing time since the Southern Italian team’s rooster isn’t actually deep enough. Caliendo stated that the chance for the ex-Juventus striker in joining the Partenopei next season is very big and the player himself is very keen in playing in Serie A again rather than staying with Hercules.
He’d be very happy to play at the San Paolo and it’s something David has considered carefully. .I am going out to Alicante now to convince the President to release him, There is no reason for him to stay at Hercules any more. I have already said he’d like to return to Italy and play for a club in the south,” Caliendo confirmed.
Aside from the chance of tasting another Champions League football next season, the agent also reveals that the passion of the Napoli fans is one of the other reasons why Trezeguet is highly considering playing there. Caliendo admitted that he has been shoving his client with the enthusiasm that he will get when playing in front of the San Paolo crowd, who are indeed very vocal in every matches that the Partenopei had especially this season.
“Lately he has talked about this a lot and I told him all about the passion of the fans. The love that the Partenopei supporters have is fantastic and you cannot understand it unless you play with the Napoli jersey. Their fans are unique and you won’t find another crowd like it in the world,” Caliendo added.
Considering the fact that Napoli’s substitute forward, Cristiano Lucarelli, will be leaving in the summer, Trezeguet’s arrival would be a perfect move for Napoli as the Frenchman can fill in Lucarelli’s boots as Edinson Cavani’s second man. Despite of the 32-years-old striker’s age, his experience is surely something that the Parteopei could use especially when they compete in a tight competition such as the Champions League next season.
