The ongoing internal dispute involving Francesco Totti with the new staffs in As Roma have been circulating highly in the media recently especially with many direct quotes from the Giallorossi’s director, Walter Sabatini, who admitted there’s heat going on.
However, approaching the season opening match this weekend, Totti seems set to step aside the difference and ready to embrace the environment offered by Luis Enrique for the good of the team.
The Roman talisman stated the intention in cooling things down via his personal website revealing the importance of togetherness and trusting the new coach to achieve success this season. Totti understand that there are many new things in the Giallorossi this summer, including plenty signings, who are mostly young talents that obviously needs guidance to compete in a difficult competition such as Serie A.
“A new championship starts on Sunday, a championship that begins later than in previous years. Finally the squad will be complete after the return of the international players and we can begin to play football. We’ll have a lot of new players and all of us will have to rally around our new Coach, the team and the club to start the campaign in the best possible manner. All of us will do this together and with one objective which is Roma, of which I am their biggest fan,” Tottis said on his official site.
The captain’s statement is definitely important to drop the temper which has been rising since Roma’s omission from the Europa League, after being beaten on aggregate against Slovan Bratislava. The incident that causes the problems arrived in the second leg where, the Giallorossi only managed a draw at Olympico despite badly needing a victory to go through. On that match, Luis Enrique made a controversial decision by subbing Totti, who was playing well on that game for young striker Stefano Okaka, a substitution which wasn’t pleasantly taken by the captain and also the majority of the capital club fans.
Enrique stood by his decision despite the failure happened after the match, but a tension is growing since the senior players and most Roma fans are pretty much standing on Totti’s back, causing a bit of internal problems that needs immediate solving. It remain to be seen whether the veteran captain’s recent words will be able to calm things down or it’s merely a temporary sweet moments that could change once another controversial incident happens in the pitch.
