This is not a hoax. Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores has Contracted the dreaded Swine Flu virus. According to his clubs website, the former Valencia Coach was feeling a little bit under the weather on Monday and subsequent tests that were carried out to check if he was suffering from the common cold came back negative.
However, what the tests did reveal was that Sanchez had indeed contracted an even worse infection. His assistant Fran Escriba has now taken charge of the team and he is expected to lead Atletico in their Saturday La Liga match against Deportivo La Coruna.
Meanwhile ,things at the top of the La Liga table could not be tighter. With 10 games already played, defending champions Barcelona are leading the pack with 26 points, just 1 point ahead of the star studded Real Madrid. This round of weekend fixtures sees Real entertaining Racing Santander at the Santiago Bernebeu while Barca will travel to mid table Athletic Bilbao.
In other news, Real Madrid have been given a harsh warning by Fiorentina against attempting to sign their amazing defender Juan Manuel Vargas. Vargas who is on contact with the Viola until June 2012 has been consistently linked with a move to the Bernebeu after continuing to impress with his performances for Fiorentina.
