Barcelona had a frustrating season last year even though the club won the league title. But considering the powerhouse squad won the treble the season before anything will look disappointing in comparison. This year it appears Barcelona may miss out on yet another trophy and the season hasn’t even really begun yet.
Barca is currently playing in the Supercopa against last season’s domestic Cup winners of Sevilla. And following the first leg, the Copa del Rey champs of from last season are winning 3-1 over the Barca boys in the two match aggregate. The second match is set to be played next Saturday in Camp Nou.
And the only good news for Barcelona was that highly talked about transfer target Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored in the match and proved to be a valuable commodity to his former treble winning side. The Swedish forward’s form was considered to have dipped last season and many critics expected the sale of the superstar due to the team supposedly preferring a true secondary striker.
And Ibrahimovic’s goal in the 20th minute would be the highlight of the match for Barcelona. Luis Fabiano would level the score early in the second half with a 61st minute equalizer and Frederic Kanoute would earn Man of the Match honors with two goals off of the bench in the last twenty minutes of action.
Barcelona is expected to play more of their renowned Spanish national team stars in the second match home leg and the team will have to overcome a two goal differential to take home their first trophy of the season.
And if any team in La Liga can overcome that type of deficit then it is Barcelona.
