Failing to reach the Champions League qualification place in the last day of Serie A and also often getting criticized by fans, Lazio’s midfielder, Stefano Mauri, reportedly is considering to leave the Biancocelesti this summer.
This news was revealed by the player’s agent, Tiziano Gongaga, who stated that his client might really consider the offer made by Russian giant, Zenit St Petersburg, who are currently being trained by an Italian coach, Luciano Spalletti.
Furthermore, Gongaga stated that the fans criticism is pretty much the one that Mauri can’t really handle anymore compared to the failure in reaching the Champions League spot. The agent also that the midfielder will soon decide on his future with the Lazio’s management because the Italian international does have a great respect towards the club that have helped him in getting a place back in the Azzurri squad.
“There was an offer from Zenit and that would be an accepted destination for the player because they are a great team, However, we firstly need to have a meeting with Lazio because having the backing of the club is important for Mauri and could be decisive in what decision he takes,” Gongaga said. “It’s a decision that only Mauri can take, You have to respect the player’s thoughts, a player who despite always doing well for Lazio is always criticised by the fans. Playing under such pressure is not easy and the player has told me that he doesn’t feel like continuing in this situation.”
Should the agent’s claim turned out to be true, that it could definitely a loss for Lazio, as Mauri has been an important player for the Biancocelesti, especially this season, where they really rise in becoming a Champions League contender team after only battling for relegation last summer. Although, Amauri has pretty much been through the bad times with the capital side, still his contribution this time of year is not something that can easily be taken for granted as along with new Brazilian star, Hernanes, the Italian international has been the key in Lazio’s midfield.
However, the fact that he has been receiving several criticism by the Laziale at times, is definitely something that would really make him consider to leave his current club. Not only that, considering the offer arrives from a good team that has Italian connection on it, things might really get easier for Mauri at Zenit. Still, leaving Italy sometimes can be very hard for several players, especially playing in a country that have different season time than Serie A.
