Sneijder Contract Talks With Inter Stalled

Quel simpaticone di WesleyLast season’s treble winner, Inter Milan, seems to be facing a little bit ego effect from their star players as after reports about Milito’s outburst to Rafael Benitez during the game against Palermo, this time Wesley Sneijder makes the headline.

The Holland international midfielder reportedly has stalled the negotiation process regarding his contract extension with the Nerazzurri after both parties failed to reach a financial agreement.

The news broke out from Sneijder’s agent, Soren Lerby’s statement to the press claiming that the negotiation that they are doing with Inter haven’t been going as smooth as it should be. However, the agent did confirm that his client’s intention is to stay with Inter but if they can’t reach an agreement there’s always a chance that the former Real Madrid man could leave the club sooner than expected.

There isn’t a financial agreement, We will start to negotiate again when there is openness on Inter’s part,” Lerby said. “Wesley wants to stay in Milan and he is very impressed with Moratti who told him that he would become the future leader of the team.”

The player himself has confirmed that the contract talks is facing difficulties and stated that he will stay with the Nerazzurri this season regardless what happened with the negotiation. However, he will only continue his career at the treble winning club should they managed to reach an agreement about the financial issues of the contract extension.

“We’re talking about a contract extension with Internazionale because I wanna stay here in Milan,” Sneijder wrote on his Twitter account. “I repeat for the umpteenth time (I wouldn’t repeat again) that I’ll be at Inter this season and if I renewed my contract, I’ll be with Internazionale until the end of this. Wesley.”

Certainly the problem on the contract extension is pretty much related with the wages that Sneijder wanted and Inter management doesn’t seemed to agree with. The fact that the ex-Ajax player has made an important contribution for the club last season and also becoming one of the strong candidates to win the Balon D’or this year are a strong sign that the player wants what he should be getting.

According to some Italian papers, at the moment Samuel Eto’o is the highest paid player in the club and it seems that Sneijder is looking to at least get almost as much as the Cameroon player gets if not the same. The effect of this problem might not effect the team currently as they are still having a good run in the league, but should the hard times started, individual matters like this one could cost bigger problems if it’s not being handle professionally by the club.
