Serie A’s First Big Name Summer Signing

Capital club AS Roma are to set to sign Flamengo’s Brazilian striker Adriano later on this week. This becomes the league’s first big name signing this summer and it should open the door for Milan, Inter and Juventus to follow in their steps.

With Rafa Benitez about to take over as Inter Coach, life in Serie A especially for the big four is set to change drastically. I will add to the growing skepticism of the former Liverpool boss. After all the hard work Mourinho has done, Moratti should not dishonor the Nerazzurri faithful by hiring someone who’s last taste of success came 5 years ago which by the way was a fluke!

I am talking about Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Milan in the 2005 final. Apart from that and Liverpool’s 2007 FA Cup success, the Spaniard has been very ineffective as the Reds manager.

Now back to player transfers. Former Roma great and current Livorno coach Carlo Mazzone thinks that Adriano’s move to rome will make the Giallorosso serious contenders for silverware next season.

“You cannot question the player’s quality, but you can doubt his professionalism. His problem is not on the pitch,”

“But, if he is professional and shows the real Adriano then he will not have any problems at Roma, in fact he can help the club make an important step up in quality.”

No one doubts Adriano’s talent and if his form for Flamengo is anything to go by, then Roma are poised to win some trophies next season. With Milan also showing that they are willing to spend big to improve their chances of winning the scudetto, it remains to be seen whether Inter will remain the dominant force they have been this past 5 years.
