Sevilla has went on to off-load centre-back Sebastien Squillaci to Barclay’s Premier League club Arsenal after both parties agreed to terms of deal and the French defender clearing a medical. Confirmed by Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, earlier today, the 30 yeear-old French will now be making his way to the Premier League where he will be looking to help out the Gunners defense after a number of departures.
Although Squillaci will not be able to participate in this Saturday’s match Premier League clash between Arsenal and Blackburn, it has been said that Squillaci will be available for the Champions League match-up
With some of the Arsenal defensive squad having left the club already as William Gallas, Philippe Senderos, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre have all departed from the squad, the Gunners will be relying on the experience from the 30-year old to help strengthen the squad again.
“We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price – he was all of that. He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well. I believe he will be suited to the English game. He will train with us tomorrow morning, but will not be involved on Saturday.” Wenger went on to say in a Press Conference earlier today.
Having played for Monaco, Lyon and Sevilla, much is expected from Sebastien Squillaci as Wenger is confident in his skills. Although he has yet to play for a club in the Premier League, I can definitely see the former Sevilla defender being able to perform for Wenger and the Arsenal squad.
