Stadio Friuli is located in Udin, Italy and is the home to Udinese of course. It is considered one of the nicest stadiums in the league and has hosted many legendary events. I have noticed a criteria over this Italian and English and Spanish stadium overview for what makes a stadium among the world’s elite. Many factors go into this ranking including: seating capacity, stadium design, geographical location, stadium facilities, technological advancements and other types of luxuries. But most of all what decides a significant European stadium is whether or not Madonna’s Stick and Sweet tour performed at the venue. Stadio Friuli can say that they have accomplished this great feat (I hope you are picking up on the sarcasm, but it is true. All great European stadiums can really pack in those Madonna fans.)
In all seriousness though, Stadio Friuli has had many legendary events held on their grounds. This includes initial Group E matches for the 1990 World Cup. The stadium hosted Spain, Belgium, Uruguay, and South Korea in three different matches. Stadio Friuli was also host of a 2005 Champions League match for Udinese. It also was recently used for a World Cup Qualifier for Italy’s national team. And yes Madonna has performed there and so has the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Boss Bruce Springsteen.
The coolest feature at the stadium is an indoor gym that is located in one of the grandstands. Sometimes the stadium hosts gymnastics, fencing, and martial arts as well as other indoor sports at the venue.
