SATO 2009 Serie A Awards: Best Player 33 & Over

Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus wins the SATO 2009 Award for Best Vet this year.  The seasoned forward celebrated his thirty-fourth birthday this season and also celebrated his 16thseason with Juventus.  Del Pierosigned with Juvein 1993 and he has played out his entire career withthe Italian powerhouse.  He has scored 188 goals in his career with Juve, won five Serie A titles, two Italian Footballer of the Year Awards, a World Cup, and he has been the top scorer in the Champions League twice as well.  In 2007 Del Piero led Serie B in most goals scored and in 2008 he led Serie A in most goals scored.  He is the only active player to win the Golden Boot Award two straight years in the two different divisions. 

Del Piero has scored more goals for Juventus then any other player in their rich history.  He is also ranked in sixth place in Champions League total goals and is tied for fourth in International Italian goals with legendary player Roberto Baggio.  So in other words, Alessandro Del Piero is not only one of the best active Italian players in the world, he is also one of the greatest Italian players of all time.

Del Piero did not disappoint this year as well.  Following up a brilliant twenty-one goal season last year, Del Piero scored thirteen goals this year ranking him in the top ten goal scorers in the league.  Del Piero helped out with the assists category too, notching nine for Juve this year. 

Alessandro Del Piero is worthy of this year’s award for League’s Best Player 33 & Over due to his commitment to Juventus and his knack for scoring goals every single year.
