SATO 2009 Serie A Awards: Best Club

Internazionale is considered the Best Serie A League Club this season and is winners of the final and most cherished PLTO award.  And what else can you say, but that they deserved the award and won it outright without a single ounce of controversy.  The club won twenty-five matches this year which was the league’s best by a significant amount.  They earned the first place ranking by a whopping ten points  (Inter finished the year with 84 points).  Inter was so good this year, they were celebrating the league title a month early.  I think it is safe to say Inter was easily the strongest club in Serie A this season.

Inter was the best club in every significant statistic in the league.  They not only won the most matches of any club, they shared a joint-lead for most goals scored with AC Milan (70), forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic won the Golden Boot with 25 goals,  and the defense allowed the fewest goals of any club with 32.  The most impressive statistic was the club’s home record throughout the year.  Inter won 14 out of 19 home matches while tying the other 5.  This means Inter was undefeated at home this year, never losing a single match.

Inter was very successful in Serie A League play this year, but the club will look to rebound next year in the Champions League.  The club lost in the knockout first round to Manchester United.  It was the third straight year the nerazzurri could not get past the critical, early round.  At least Inter can celebrate their forth straight Serie A League title along with their Italian Super Cup victory over AS Roma

Next year Inter looks to make it one for the thumb with their fifth straight league title.
