Real Madrid are truly on the finish line for wining this season’s La Liga title after surprisingly beating their arch rival Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou, with Christiano Ronaldo scoring the winning goal after Sami Khedira puts Los Blancos in the lead.
Although Alexis Sanchez managed to grab an equalizer for Pep Guardiola’s side but Ronaldo’s fine finish simply ended Madrid’s bad run against their rival at Camp Nou and might as well clinched the league title as Jose Mourinho’s squad goes seven points ahead because of the three points.
Playing ahead of their Champions League second leg tie, Barcelona, who were firm favorites to win the Classico this Saturday, puts out a rather unique formation, resting the likes of Gerard Pique and also Cesc Fabregas, while putting in youngsters such as Thiago along with Christian Tello. The strange 3-4-3 approach from Guardiola showed signs of shakiness right from the start as Madrid managed to be a bit more dangerous although Barca managed to dominate the ball possession like they always do.
Madrid’s counter attacking plan worked out pretty well as they managed to take the lead from Khedira, who snitched Victor Valdes’ rebound save which strangely wasn’t being cleared by Carles Puyol, allowing the German international to snatch the ball into Barca’s net. That goal stunned the home team who tried to step up their game a bit but apparently facing a very tough defensive wall from Mourinho’s team, who set up a similar style, Ac Milan and Chelsea did in the Champions League.
Not many chances were created by Barcelona but Xavi Hernandez should have pulled the home team a level with his glorious chance, while in the other hand Madrid were simply forced to sit back after getting their goal. Chasing a goal down, Barca started the second half in the similar attacking style and managed to create a bit more chances, which were wasted by Tello, who seemed to panic every time he got into scoring positions.
After several attempts, Barcelona eventually equalized when substitute player, Sanchez tapped in his own rebound shot, which was previously saved by Cassillas before hitting the Chilean for the second time and went into the back of Madrid’s net. After Tello once again missed a chance, Madrid’s surprising counter attack stunned the Catalan once again as Mesut Ozil set Ronaldo free in the penalty area before eventually beating Valdez for the second time.
The second goal gave a mental edge for Madrid players as they were looking much more confident after it and managed to create more dangerous chances than the home team who looked frustrated. Mourinho’s team eventually ended their string of bad runs at Camp Nou and also picking up an important three points which could very well confirmed their title this season
