Real Madrid was able to pull off the narrow 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad earlier today and Cristiano Ronaldo would get the opportunity to play hero by sealing the game with a late winner for Los Blancos.
The first half of action lacked a decisive first goal and the long awaited score would not come until the second half for Real Madrid. The side has struggled early in the year to score, but they would score multiple goals for the first time of the La Liga season in the second half of the match with help from a new signing in Angel Di Maria. The Argentine star would place a brilliant shot into the far top corner of the net.
However the game would become more interesting when the underdog Sociedad squad equalised when Raul Tamudo knocked the ball into the net with a fortunate thigh score which was set up from a free kick by Antoine Griezmann. And then with just 16 minutes left in the match another free kick would decide the outcome and who other than Cristiano Ronaldo would be responsible for the game winning score.
Ronaldo banked the shot in off of deflection from a defender and Real would secure the 2-1 victory in the process leaving them in first place at the end of the day. The side has yet to have that dominate performance and struggled to narrowly beat two relegation zone type of squads in Osasuna and Sociedad, but the key fact is that they picked up 6 points over the two game stretch and will be ahead of Barcelona at the end of the weekend with 7 total points to Barca’s 3 at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how Mourinho’s new side will fair as the season progresses, but at the moment considering their mediocre offensive form and need for one more decent striker, I’d say that it has been a fairly strong start for the Special One in Spain.
