In a recent interview with Real Madrid’s official website, the Portuguese superstar was asked several questions regarding his new boss, Jose Mourinho, Raul’s departure, being back training with the squad and Real Madrid’s bitter rivals; Barcelona.
Now that former Real Madrid icon, Raul, has left to the German Bundesliga club Schalke, a lot of rumors and speculations were going around as to see who will wear the number 7 jersey.
It only seems natural that Cristiano Ronaldo would be reunited with his former number he once wore at Old Trafford and when asked about it he was quoted saying the following :
“I would like to have the No.7 shirt and I’m sure Raul would be happy if I had it because he knows how I am and how I think. Raul was always an important player to Real Madrid. He made the decision that best suited his interests. He is a great professional and I’m sure he will play at a very high level.”
When asked of his new coach, Jose Mourinho, and if his new tactics during training will fit in with the team’s style of play, he had this to say : “Mourinho is a winner. Real Madrid has attacking players, so we will be an offensive team. The priority right now is to get back in shape as soon as possible,”
The team has been training all day today at UCLA’s training facility in preparation for their upcoming US and European tour which includes games against Club America on Aug 4th, Los Angeles Galaxy Aug 7th, then to Europe against German giants Bayern Munich Aug 13th and wrapping it all up in Belgium against Standard Liege on Aug 17th. “We are very excited and working very hard. We have to keep this level of excitement up in order to win titles.”
With Barcelona as the current champions of La Liga, people have to understand that Barcelona was already an established club who had the chemistry between it’s players. Yes, Real Madrid did boost some players in there club with adding Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Benzema, but none of these players played on the same field together. Barca’s chemistry was just to much for Madrid but things should definitely shape up to be a little different this year as the club played more with each other and with Mourinho in charge as well, Madrid should definitely start to look better. Cristiano Ronaldo went on to continue with the following :
“Barcelona were more regular than us last year, but we are not worried about what they may do this season. I’m sure we will have a better run this year. If I actually believed we couldn’t defeat Barcelona, I would be home instead of here.
“All great players are welcome here and we will greet them the best way we know how. All the summer signings are very good.” he added.
Will Real Madrid be able to defeat Barcelona in the upcoming season? Think With Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo leading the charge, is it shaping up to be a good year for Los Blanco’s?
