Sure Ronaldo didn’t score anywhere near 5 goals last night, however, his double took his all time tally for Real to 127 goals in 128 games. Very impressive if you ask me.
Los Blancos easily made it to the last eight thanks to a 4-1 win inspired by an improving Kaka. The capital based club joins Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Milan,Marseille and APOEL in the quarters finals that are expected to pair very interesting fixtures.
The much awaited draw for this stage of the competition takes place tomorrow 1300hrs CET. Looking at the teams that have qualified, none can really be ruled out, however, the favourites do stand out.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich have between them won the trophy an amazing 24 times and from their approach in the tournament, a finally comprising of either of the two would definitely be a thrilling affair.
That said, Chelsea cannot be forgotten. The Blues, who are yet to win a European trophy will be looking to end their season on a high especially after a torrid couple of months that has seen them fall out of the Champions League bracket in the EPL.
Coming back to the match, a delighted Jose Mourinho revealed that he would relish the prospect of playing his old club Chelsea in the final although, there remains a likelihood that the pair could meet in the next stage.
“People can’t understand how much I love Chelsea and I know if I get them in the quarter-finals or the semi-finals, they would be great opponents,” said Mourinho, who has been widely-tipped to retake the reins at Stamford Bridge in the summer. I’m happy Chelsea have got through, but I’d love to play them in the final.”
Mourinho also had kind words for an improving Kaka saying that the Brazilian work rate cannot be compared to that of his days with Milan.
“He had a spectacular match,” Mourinho said.
“He had his best games at AC Milan, but he has never worked harder than now.
“He does fantastic work for the team and it is normal that he does not have enough strength in his legs after 75 minutes. We created our best chances in the first half.”
