Roma Prepares For Champions League Spot Battle Against Udinese

As Roma have to forget the lose against Juventus last weekend as another important match awaits them this Saturday, with current fourth place holder, Udinese awaits for Vincenzo Montella’s team arrival at Friulli.

This match is being considered as an crucial game for Montella especially if the capital club still holds their target in finishing in the Champions League zone by the end of the season and with the first three places seems out of their grasp, the fourth place looks to be the most possible target for Il Lupi.

If we really want fourth place, and we do really want it, it’s a decisive game, A play-off,” Montella said.

Having taste his first defeat in the league since taking over from Claudio Ranieri, Montella seems worried that this weekend another Whiter and Black team would beat Roma simply because Udinese are having a good season so far. Despite also tasting a defeat in their last match, Francesco Guidolin’s team still posessed serious threat for the Giallorossi, especially since the Bianconeri will be playing in front of their home crowd that will lift the players morale.

Among all of Udinese’s department, their attackers are the one that Montella fear the most especially the talent and quality of young Chilean, Alexis Sanchez, who has been showing his talent in the second half of the season. Surely, the Bianconeri also have Antonio Di Natale, who has been competing tightly with Napoli’s Edinson Cavani in getting the Italian Serie A top scorer status by the end of this season.

“Udinese remain one of the best teams in Serie A. They are a young team with a lot of running, technique and infinite resources in attack,” Montella said “They are devastating up front. I am referring, for example, to Alexis Sanchez. He is very good both up front and in giving his teammates a hand.”

Just as Montella stated, this weekend match will be important for Roma’s future in the end of the season, a win could really boost their chance in acquiring the Champions League ticket that are being chased by several clubs as well. The club’s new owner, Thomas Di Benedetto, has already stated that playing in the UCL next season would be a great achievement for the capital club as it could make their players hunt in the summer easier. Moreover, it would be important also for Montella as finishing at least in the fourth place would probably ensured his stay for at least one more season.
