Just getting into the early stage of the season, As Roma already felt the negative aspect of tight schedule caused by the Euro 2012 qualifying round as they will lose their defender, John Arne Riise who was injured during his international duty.
The left back reportedly suffered a head injury while training for his country Norway in their preparation to play against Portugal on the Euro Qualifying round. Riise got the injury after coming off worse in an aerial duel against his own teammates Espen Ruud and was sent for immediate check up at hospital after the incident.
According to the hospital’s scan result, Riise will have to rest around 20 days which certainly means that the former Liverpool player won’t be available to play at least three matches for Roma. The matches that the left back would potentially misses are two league games and one important Champions League trip to Germany where they will be facing Bayern Muenchen at Allianz Arena.
Riise’s injury surely gives a big blow for Roma’s coach Claudio Ranieri who will definitely need to make a shift in his team’s defense considering that the Norwegian international is one of the tactician’s main players. With the difficult and tight schedule their facing in the upcoming days, the absence of an important player like the former Liverpool player could cause a big problem for the Giallorossi.
After the departure of Max Tonetto, Riise has pretty much become the lone dominator at Roma’s left back post as Ranieri doesn’t seem to have much trust in other players aside from the Norwegian international. Now with the 30-years-old defender’s absence, it would be interesting to see what will the former Juventus coach prepares to cover the post especially in their upcoming encounter against Bayern Munich.
