The Italian Serie A race is definitely headed down to the wire. With both Roma and Milan closing in on league leaders Inter Milan after last weekend’s round of fixtures, the Nerazzurri know that any more slip -ups will be fatal to their championship hopes. Roma who have had a renaissance under Claudio Ranieri will be looking to end Inter’s domination of the league and go one further and maybe even win the scudetto.
As things stand, Inter are only 5 points ahead of their nearest challengers AS Roma and 7 ahead of city rivals Milan who have a game in hand. Now is the perfect time for Mourinho and all Inter fans to start getting a little bit worried. Although i hate to admit it, Roma are playing some really good football the type that would get any coach worried.
Milan on the other hand have the advantage of having a game in hand working for them. However, the only problem is that their opposition is not just any team. Milan face Fiorentina in a tricky away fixture on Wednesday that will have any rossoneri fan biting his nails.
If Milan win then they will cut Inter’s lead over them to just 4 points. That will set the pace for a dramatic end to the 2009/2010 season. The Viola will be no easy opposition but Milan can count on the rejuvenated form of Ronaldinho. Gaucho was again at his best in Milan’s 2-0 win at Bari. He had a hand in both goals as he led Milan to an important win that helped them maintain their 3rd place position in the league. One thing is definitely sure, this will be the tightest race for the scudetto in a long while.
