In form Dutch winger Arjen Robben scored a brace to help his club clinch the Bundesliga title after they beat relegated Hertha Berlin 3-1 on Saturday. Luis Van Gaal’s side now possess a trophy they last won 2 years ago and that should immensely boost their confidence ahead of their May 22nd Champions League final showdown with Inter Milan at the Santiago Barnebeu Stadium.
With 16 league goals to his name, Robben is not only the club’s top scorer but also its most important player. Luis Van Gaal was definitely happy with his sides performance.
“I think people will remember the Bayern team of the 2009/10 season. We had the best attack, the best defense and I think we played the most attractive football this season and that is important for me. It is a good to win and we managed to stay in our rhythm. I will party until very late tonight.”
As most European leagues hit the final stretch next weekend, things are still pretty tight in the Serie A. Champions Inter are looking to defend their title amidst a strong challenge from capital club Roma.
The Giallorosso are only 2 points below the Nerazzurri and as both clubs won yesterday, it all boils down to the last match day to determine the champions. Inter yesterday played host to Chievo Verona in a highly entertaining match that ended 4-3 in their favour
Inter’s last match will be away to Siena just 6 days before they meet Munich in the Final of the Champions League. Winning the scudetto then would definitely motivate them greatly ahead of their mega clash.
That said, Bayern Munich have definitely looked liked champions for the better part of the season and the icing on the cake for Van Gaal would be winning the Champions League.
