Real Madrid V AC Milan Preview

European action resumes this week with the mother of all matches being played tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium  9 time European Champions host 7 time champions AC Milan.

The match will not only be a battle for Group G supremacy but also a chance for both teams to improve their head to head record. Last year Milan emerged victorious in the Bernabeu winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Pato and Pirlo.

Both teams were big winners this weekend with former Madrid striker Robinho scoring his first goal for the Rossoneri. The ‘Fantastic Four’ Ronaldinho, Pato Ibrahimovic and Robinho are starting to connect well and a lot is expected from them tomorrow.

Madrid were not left behind in the summer transfer window as they also made good signings. Oezil are Khedira are players who have earned a regularly starting role for Los Blancos and it is not hard to understand why.

With Ronaldo and Higuain banging goals from all corners, Milan will be up against a very different Madrid side. Mourinho is expected to start a largely similar line up that beat Malaga 4-1 against Milan tomorrow.

Team News

Mourinho is expected to play in a 4-3-2-1 formation.

Casillas, Carvalho, Pepe, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Alonso, Khedira, Higuain, Oezil, Ronaldo and Di Maria should be the preferred starting line up. Mourinho will have a full strength squad for selection.

Allegri will counter this by playing in a 4-3-3 formation.

Abbiati, Zambrotta, Nesta, Antonini, Abate, Gattuso, Seerdorf, Pirlo, Ronaldinho, Pato and Ibrahimovic should start, however, Allegri could opt to start Robinho after the striker combined well with ronaldinho to score his debut goal.

The only injury worry for Allegri is Thiago Silva who is out of the match after picking up an injury in their 3-1 win over Chievo.  Some god news for Allegri is that skipper Ambrosini could be fit for Tuesday’s encounter.

Allegri’s lack of Champions League experience and Mourinho’s tactical prowess tips the balance in favour of Madrid, however, with players like Prince Boateng, Dinho, Robinho, Pato and Ibra, Madrid cannot afford to underestimate their opponents.

A draw would favour Madrid but, Milan will want to be assured of progression to the knockout stages. I predict a 2-1 win for the Rossoneri.
