Real Madrid say no to Rooney

Real Madrid director Valdano says no to Rooney The Real Madrid director Jorge Valdano says the club from Real Madrid do not have space for Wayne Rooney and will not be signing the young English striker. The statement arrived as a little bit of a surprise as Real Madrid were seemingly going to be one of the clubs with a huge interest in signing the global mega star. The English striker suits the clubs policy ideally. He is an international superstar, has a huge cult following, is valuable in terms of brand awareness and recognition – for the club and himself, is an immensely talented player, one of the best in the world in fact, and is relatively young. Furthermore the young striker is also likely to be available at a knock down fee seeing as he is reluctant to sign a new contract at Manchester United and is therefore merely playing for time, waiting for his contract to end where upon he will be able to sign for the club of his choosing regardless of what his current employers Manchester United desire. Manchester United, on the other hand, aware that the player is not willing to sign a new contract, will try to sell the player as soon as feasibly possible to maximise the amount they receive.

Manchester United are likely to want to sell the striker in January but will recognise that potential buyers will not be so keen on doing a deal in this transfer window as the player would be unavailable for the Champions League and any potential buyers, like Internazionale Milan, Barcelona or Real Madrid, are likely to still be involved with the competition. It appears set, therefore, that if the player is to leave it will be in the summer of 2011, just twelve months before his contract expires. It is still indeed possible that the player might yet sign a contract extension with Manchester United but as of now, according to the latest news leaks from Wayne Rooney’s camp, the player has his heart set on a move. Jorge Valdano, who as a director at Real Madrid operates with the official title of club manager, has said that the player in unwanted at his club. This might merely be a negotiating tactic, making it clear that Real Madrid are unwilling to begin negotiations for the player at the price Manchester United set and would rather, as it were, begin talks at their own valuation.

Valdano was quoted as saying ”We have two wonderful players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain, up front and they showed last season that they are able to score 60 goals. Di Maria and Oezil will help. The question is who is removed for Rooney?” Valdano also mentioned the worth of Karim Benzema and Kaka and his point is entirely understandable. Rooney is indeed an admirable player but Real Madrid already struggle to accommodate all the star players they have in their squad and therefore adding another might be an unwelcome problem as opposed to a desired solution.
