PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has responded to rumours that his club have a plan in place to lure Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid this summer:
“Mourinho said that he would leave Madrid after winning the Champions League. We currently have Ancelotti and I trust him completely”, Al-Khelaifi said.
The head of the Paris club also denied the reports of an interest in Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Ronaldo plays for Madrid and I have great respect for the club and its president. If I want to bring Cristiano to Paris, I’ll call the club first before making any statement”.
The Paris Saint-Germain President had to respond to rumours which have been circulating in France over the past few weeks claiming that the €150 million that PSG’s new publicity contract was destined to be spent on the signings of the Special and Ronaldo.
The speculation had been originally fuelled by Saud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari Olympic Committee and right-hand man of the Paris Saint-Germain owner, Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who, when asked whether it was true that the club was interested in the pair, answered,
“yes, of course”. He also went on to say that the intention was to “do what is best for your club and make the right investments at the right time”.
This is shaping up to be a blockbuster of a summer. I fully expect Mourinho and Ronaldo to both leave Real Madrid this summer, plus Pep Guardiola will land somewhere and Radamel Falcao will leave Atletico Madrid.
Has there ever been a summer when two of the best managers and players in the world changed clubs?
