Fiorentina’s poor run in the Serie A continued yesterday when they lost 2-1 at home to capital club Lazio. The Artemio Franchi stadium had been a fortress for the Viola last season and many expected the Flornce side to continue their impressive home run in the new year.

Just 3 games into the season, Fiorentina find themselves in a precarious position at 16th place on the table. However, with more fixtures slated to continue today, he Viola could find themselve dead last.

Fiorentina have struggled ever since they lost their prolific coach Cesare Prandelli to the national side. This coupled with Stefan Jovetic’s longterm injury, Mutu’s drug ban and Gilardino’s lak of form are most likely the major reasons for the club’s disastrous start to the season.

Fiorentina drew 1 all with Napoli on the opening day of the season before slumping to a surprising 1-0 defeat away to Lecce. Their latest loss to Lazio is definitely a bitter pill to swallow for Coach Sinisa Mihajlovich who promised to continue with Prandelli’s impressive legacy.

The matches do not get any easier for Fiorentina as they travel to the Comunale Luigi Ferraris stadium on Wednesday for a mid week fixture against Genoa. 4 days later they host Parma in Florence and the weekend after Palermo pay them a visit.

Jovetic’s pre season injury is no doubt a big blow for Mihajlovic. The 20 year old is expected to be out for 6 months affter tearing a cruciate ligament in his knee. With Girladino yet to find his scoring boots and Mutu still serving his drug ban, the blues are likely to continue for Fiorentina.

Jovetic might not score many goals however his presence on the pitch is something that cannot be denied. Scoring a total of 11 goals In 6 last season, 5 in 6 Champions League appearances, his service to the club will be dearly missed.
