Eying to ease up a little bit of the pressure on his side, Barcelona, ahead of their clash against Ac Milan in the Champions League this Wednesday, Gerard Pique shrugged off the favorite label on his team.
Pique doesn’t seem to enjoy how the media and pundits simply labeling Barca as a sure favorite not only for the quarter final tie but also in winning the trophy, the defender said that it’s not impossible for the Catalan to be eliminated by the Italian champion.
Pique revealed that Milan are a strong side and they fact that they have already met each other in the group stage simply opens up any kinds of possibilities including the Rossoneri knocking out the Catalan. However, the center back promised the Barca fans that he and his teammates will do everything they can to handle the Italian champion, especially in San Siro, which could turned out to be a tricky ground.
You can’t call us favourites, it doesn’t mean anything. No team has ever won back-to-back Champions League titles. It will be very difficult. Of course we can be eliminated. Milan are one of the greatest clubs in history. But we’ll give our best, it will be a great tie,” Pique stated.
Furthermore, Pique also showered some praises towards two Milan’s important players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and also Thiago Silva, acknowledging their importance and also technical qualities. The Spanish international was disappointed though with Silva’s injury, which will force him to miss out the first leg and potentially also the second one, which obviously a big blow for the Rossoneri.
“It was a pleasure to play on the same team as Zlatan. He’s one of the best, he scored a lot and helped us to win a Liga title,” Pique added. “Thiago Silva is a great player, one of the best centre-backs at the moment, but Milan have a lot of great players.”
