We can safely say that the war of words surrounding the best player in the world is not about to end anytime soon. Arguably the world’s greatest player, Pele has once again opened debate on this highly sensitive issue.
“I would love to play with Lionel Messi. But Messi is an incomplete player because he can’t use his head. Also I played football for 20 years, Messi has only played for several years.”
These were the words of Pele when he was interviewed by Goal.com in London early this week. Of course, Pele paid glowing tribute to rising Brazilian star Neymar saying he would have loved to play with him.
“If there is one player in the world today I would love to play with it is Neymar.”
To be honest, Pele making such remarks only makes himself look bad. I am a big Pele fan no doubt, i am also a fan of both Messi and Neymar, however, the war of words is casting the beautiful game in bad light.
In fact, more and more people are starting to feel that the more Pele talks about Messi and how he does not measure up to any Brazilian player, the worse he makes himself look.
There is no doubting that at his time Pele was the greatest and probably still is but you can be sure, he will not hold that title for long if he continues making remarks like these.
That said, birthday wishes are indeed sent out to Pele. The All time leading Brazilian goal scorer recieved an 18 carat gold plated football boot for his birthday from PFA deputy chief executive Bobby Barnes which was presented to him alongside Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Apparently, the football star was also in the English capital on official business as he was launching his new sports lifestyle collection. The collection included: Pelé Story, Pelada and Performance.
The highlight was the Trinity 3E football boot which amongst other things promises to “maximise a player’s game and speed potential by training your muscles as you play.”
