AC Milan’s 3-1 victory over Atalanta was overshadowed by striker Alexander Pato’s injury. The Brazil international came off 10 minutes from the end after clutching his thigh in what looked like a hamstring injury. This is terrible news for Leonardo as he will need all his troops when Milan travel to Manchester for their return Champion’s League fixture against United.
Pato scored a brace to help his team stay in hot pursuit of league leaders and cross town neighbours Inter Milan in the race for the scudetto.
Milan have now won 4 league games in a row and that should give them a lot of confidence ahead of their next fixture against Roma. Ronaldinho had a hand in Milan’s first goal as he played in Ambrosini with a neat flick which Ambrosini passed to an umarked Pato who fired home with his right foot. The goal calmed the 30,000 rossoneri fans who turned up to cheer Milan. Ronaldinho again combined with Pato in the 41st minute as he fed him a through ball that the youngster drove past Andrea Consigli.
Atalanta’s only goal came in the 56th minute when Valdez got free on the left flank and sent his shot past Abbiati. Milan however put the game beyond their reach in the 61st minute when Marco Borriello scored from Ronaldinho’s rebounded penalty. Milan’s win coupled with Roma’s draw offered the rossoneri some breathing space.
The Giallorossi were held to a 2-2 draw by Napoli that slowed done their attempts to upstage the scudetto from Inter. Roma are now 7 points behind Inter and with only 12 games left to play, they are faced with an uphill task to get their campaign back on track.
