Freshen up after the season break, Ac Milan’s star defender, Alessandro Nesta, stated that he might not retire yet after the upcoming new season as he still have the motivation to give more for the Rossoneri.
Having only a year contract extension, Nesta insisted that he simply want to take things one step at a time as the future is pretty much still a mystery that he isn’t afraid to overcome especially with the Red and Black squad.
“It is my intention to retire as late as possible and in a decent manner. Let’s take it one step at a time. We’ve been training for just a week and people are already talking about the future. I’ll continue to give everything as I always have,” Nesta said. If I no longer had the motivation to play then I would have quit, but I still have a great amount of desire. I’m at the Coach’s disposal and I’ll look to give my contribution to the team.”
Already reaching the age of 35, Nesta still proves that he is an important part of the Milan’s defense as last season his duet with Thiago Silva at the back provides intense security for the Rossoneri as they won the Scudetto as the team with least goals conceded. Although the signs of decline is visible at times but Nesta’s ability to organize the back line is still at top level as his leadership is pretty much what help Silva flourished last season.
However, surely considering his physical condition, Nesta might have to admit that he might not get that much regular playing time again in the new season as having too many games at such an age could trouble his fitness even more. Fortunately, with the arrival of Phelippe Mexes from As Roma this summer, the ex-Lazio captain will have the chance to get some extra rest and even competition at Milan back line considering there’s also Mario Yepes, who could provide a more than excellent job at the back as well.
