Napoli’s right wing back, Christian Maggio, has been impressing a lot recently especially since last season, his performance obviously caught the eye of many clubs and with his contract extension with Napoli still hanging on the balance, the chance for a move is possible.
This situation is being brought up by Maggio’s agent, Massimo Briaschi, who warned the Naples based club that if no new agreement is being made soon, there’s always a possibility that the Italian international might be considering his future by the end of season.
Despite admitting that there’s many offer for his client, Briaschi confirmed that staying at Naples is still Maggio’s number one priority especially since his actual contract will last until 2013. However, it’s pretty obvious that the Italian international is pushing for a renewal as he feels that he has been very influential in helping Napoli’s rise into becoming a Champions League material squad again.
Christian would be happy to remain at Napoli. If the club want to reward him for what he has done then he would be honoured. If that isn’t the case then we will make some other evaluations because there is certainly not a lack of admirers. Maggio certainly won’t be left unemployed. We’re not worried about the situation and if there are the conditions in place to allow the player to sign then he will. There is no time limit in place, but if there is no agreement by January or February of 2012 then it is obvious that the player could be targeted by other teams,” Briaschi said.
Maggio himself has already voiced out his intention for renewing contract with Napoli since the start of season, but apparently the Southern Italian side are still stalling talks with the Italian international for the time being. Obviously the former Sampdoria man is eager to improve his deal and get an insurance regarding his future, considering he is reaching the 30-years-old mark pretty soon, which is always being noted as the final chapter for a fotballer.
Maggio’s performance started to reach its height since last season where he becomes one of Napoli’s most important players in their quest to secure third place in Serie A, which leads them to Champions League football this season. The ex-Sampdoria player’s fine season also got a reward from the Italy national team where he managed to steal a starting spot in the last few matches of the Azzurri’s Euro 2012 qualifiers.
