Although many reports indicated that Real Madrid would pass up on the opportunity in signing Wayne Rooney, Jose Mourinho went on to state that, should Manchester United decide to sell the striker, he will take major interest in signing the Englishman.
It was already confirmed by Sir Alex that Rooney wants out of the club and with just 18 months left on his contract, it would be a smarter for the Red Devils to off-load Rooney in the upcoming transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing.
But Mourinho is confident that Rooney will be staying put at the Old Trafford. Prior to the 2-0 win over AC Milan, Mourinho went on to say the following on the subject to Sky Sports News:
“He will stay. He probably wants to leave for some reason but I believe he belongs to Man United, he belongs to Man United fans, he belongs to Old Trafford. I believe he is going to stay. But if at the end of the day Man United decides that he is to leave, then give me a call.”
It’s not question that Madrid would try and chase down Rooney if Manchester United decide to sell him. Although Mourinho stated earlier that he would like to keep the services of Karim Benzema, should Rooney be up for grabs, the French striker would be the likely person to be making his departure from Los Blancos. Reuniting Ronaldo and Rooney with other mega-stars in the club like Higuain and Kaka would make the club seem unstoppable. However, Mourinho is confident that Rooney will be staying put at United as he finished off saying that “[Rooney] will still at Old Trafford”.
