Jose Mourinho revealed his joy after Real Madrid’s success in advancing to the next round of the Champions League, admitting that he isn’t that concern with whoever his side must face in the quarter final as he already set his mind in securing the La Liga title.
Although stating that winning in Europe is something special, Mourinho apparently is more keen in finishing the season as league winner especially since they are already 10 points ahead of their bitter rival, Barcelona.
“What matters is being in the quarterfinals and we have to wait to Friday’s draw to see whom we’ll face,” Mourinho stated. The league is still the most important championship for me even though the Champions League is something altogether different. The winner in the league is the best team in 11 months and we will not give anything away. “
Explaining about the situation of the game, Mourinho acknowledged that his team didn’t actually played superbly as there were actually some scares coming from CSKA, although Madrid eventually overcomes it. The Portuguese tactician admitted that there were a little beat fear creeping down when the Russian grabbed a goal right after Karim Benzem netted the Spaniard’s third, but ‘The Special One’ applauded his players job in securing the victory.
“I expected the game to be what it was. CSKA were true to their culture and didn’t take risks. Despite them having some chances we always dominated the match. We didn’t give a spectacular performance but we played a serious game. The match was practically finished when we were 3-0 up, but we were a little worried in the final minutes. Nevertheless, it was Madrid’s match throughout.” the Portuguese stated.
Moreover, the former Inter Milan and Chelsea send out personal praises to some of his players, notably Kaka, who the tactician believes has been working much harder than his days in Italy. Mourinho is very happy with the former Ac Milan player’s performance, and is obviously delighted that the attacking midfielder can finally give a continuous contribution this season.
Meanwhile, there’s a little bit worry for Madrid in the next round as they will be missing Xabi Alonso for the first leg of Quarter Final after collecting a suspension on the night. This situation didn’t concern Mourinho though, as the tactician simply believes that his side have plenty capable players, who can replace the Spanish international.
“Kaka gave a spectacular performance. He had his best years in Italy, but he’s never worked as hard as he does now. He did a fantastic job and I am very happy with the way he plays,” Mourinho added. “Xabi Alonso is a great and very important player for us, but we’re not going to cry about his yellow card. We’re solid in midfield. Granero and Lass can easily play with Khedira and Nuri, whose spirits we’re trying to raise.”
