Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has stated that the club will not release any funds to Benitez to buy new players in the January transfer window unless he offloads some players.
Inter made only 2 summer signings, Luca Castellazzi and Davide Faraoni who joined on a free transfer. According to Benitez, this should warrant some mid season spending if they are to remain in competition for the Scudetto.
“I don’t know if we will do something,” said Moratti. ”We are looking around.
“But to buy we must sell. We will see if we are able to do both of these things.”
With Argentine striker Diego Milito left out of FIFA’s Ballon D’or 23 man short list and uncertainty over Sulley Muntari’s future, the Nerazzurri are indeed facing some hard times in the Serie A.
Down to third place in the league, Inter Milan are 4 points behinds leaders Lazio and 2 points behind arch rivals AC Milan. Despite all this, Milito- Inter’s star of the season last year, expressed thanks to the people who backed him for inclusion.
“I want to thank those who publicly and privately made me feel their support.” The striker is in a race against time to get fit for Friday’s game against Genoa.
Inter President Massimo Moratti also expressed his shock at Milito’s exclusion.
“I am very sorry for the exclusion of Diego Milito from the list of candidates for the Ballon d’Or,” Moratti is quoted as saying by Eurosport. “I called him to tell him that it’s an incredible decision.”
Both Milan sides prepare for season changing matches with Milan facing a very tough test at the San Siro in form of Juventus. The 28 time Serie A winners have improved significantly after a poor start to the season and they are expected to pose a great challenge for the Rossoneri.
Benitez on the other hand will be hoping Juventus can do his side a favour and beat Milan to allow Inter to move into second place. With 8 weeks already played, the season will only get more exciting as no team will want to drop points at this stage.
