MLS side Montreal Impact are considering signing Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, this is according to their coach Jesse Marsch. Marsch revealed that he is looking for a player who can score goals and thinks that eithr Del Piero or Louis Saha would be good acquisitions.
From what i have been reading online, not too many people are happy with MLS club’s signing players that “past their prime”. However, looking at the long term benefits for the League, snapping up world class players like Beckham, Henry, Keane, and Marquez has not only been great at marketing the league, but will add money to the league through increased tickets sales thereby helping the league become even bigger.
Truth be said, a couple of years back nobody paid attention to the MLS. However, now it is emerging as a destination for not only established players, but also aspiring ones as well. What has changed?
Well, the league has become more attractive. And it is the prospect of this new challenge that has got many players including Rio Ferdinand, Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack seriously considering ending their careers in the United States.
So could Del Piero move to the United States? It is very likely that he he will once the season ends. At 38, he is not getting any younger and the opportunity to finish his career with regular play in a new league at a good pay would be too hard to turn down.
Meanwhile, in other Del Piero news, reports doing the rounds on the internet claim that the striker voice helped in waking a girl up from her coma. Italy’s ANSA run the story as they stated that 12 year old Giada Scalise showed great improvement after hearing the voice of Del Piero.
Gaida Scalise who is a die hard Juve fan suffered a brain hemorrhage while watching a Juventus match on television and after the situation failed to change two weeks later the family appealed to Del Piero for help. Del Piero is known to be very charitable and often commits his time and money towards cancer research.
Here is an excerpt of the inspirational story run by ANSA.
The parents of Giada, a big Juventus supporter from the small southern town of Cerenzia, believe the footballer made an important contribution to the happy outcome. “That night (after listening to the message) something special happened,” said the girl’s father, Francesco.
“First she moved her hand and then after a few hours she called out ‘mamma’. Then after about 24 hours she talked and asked for an ice-cream”.
The girl’s parents appealed for Del Piero’s help via a charity after she fell ill and slipped on January 22.
In the message, he said: “Hello Giada, I’m Alessandro Del Piero. I hope you can wake up as soon as possible to watch lots of our and my games, to come and see us and, above all, get to know each other”.
If you ever doubted the power of sport, i hope this changes your mind.
